This sticker is dedicated to therapists who understand the importance of client narratives and acknowledge the centuries of pain and suffering of their ancestors by the oppressor. These therapists recognize that mental health is a system that wasn’t built for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) or LGBTQIA2S+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Two-Spirit, and the countless affirmative ways in which people choose to self-identify) individuals; this therapist not only recognizes this but does something about it. This therapist knows that the therapeutic training in the education system provided a limited understanding of “diversity” in the therapy room and thus, this therapist continuously works toward breaking away from the confines of this system because they know it doesn’t work for everyone. The therapist puts a focus on how trauma from oppression and colonization plays a role in mental health and gives individuals the proper support they need.
